PROPERY MANAGER REPORT

Island news:

  • The recent solar eclipse generated much excitement on the Island.
  • Businesses are re-opening.
  • Daffodil Weekend, considered the “official” season opening, will take place April 26.
  • A new wind farm has been approved, much to the consternation of many Islanders.
  • Relocation of Our Island Home to Sherburne Commons is still in discussion.

Mariner House News:

  • March occupancy was 33%.
  • The new front door has been installed.
  • Painting of the India Street side of Mariner House is in process, although somewhat affected by rainy weather.
  • Foreclosures continue to move forward.

OLD BUSINESS

The issue of replacing the existing MH internal network with wireless mesh is on hold.  Comcast has replaced network nodes on Nantucket with newer technology, and has upgraded the installed equipment in MH.  Comcast has suggested that we increase bandwidth to provide more stable access.  Tracy will attempt to negotiate a favorable rate for this increase.

NEW BUSINESS

  • In order to mitigate the Island’s perceived short-term rental problem, the town has decreed that such properties must be licensed and charge room occupancy taxes. According to Massachusetts law, time share properties are exempt.  Joe Guay will investigate.  MH is proceeding as normal.
  • Discussion as to what can be done to encourage a sense of community among MH owners tabled.

There being no further items for discussion, Gloria Kunz moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:29 PM, seconded by Mark Thurston.

The next Mariner House Board of Director’s meeting will be held on May 14 at 7:00 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Gloria F. Kunz
